Fall. That time of year when yellowing leaves begin to waft slowly to the ground. When the mornings are cool and the evenings crisp. When the scent of burning wood and the sound of leaves crunching underfoot invigorate the senses. It is this time of year when many college ministries attend or hold fall retreats. With several weeks of class behind them, students have had a chance to investigate the ministries available to them. They’ve started to build community – or are still trying to … [Read more...]
The gift of hope, healing and restoration
When I was a child growing up in southern Missouri, my brothers and I always anticipated the arrival of the Sears Christmas Book. It was a catalog filled with pictures of toys, games and all sorts of good stuff. We would look through it over and over, marveling at all the items. After having to make some really tough decisions, we would prepare our Christmas wish lists. We were limited to how many items we could put on that list and we soon learned to list our wishes in order of priority. … [Read more...]

Because you give: Tia’s eternity is forever changed
It all started with a coffee run. On a trip to the closest city to the Village of Three Temples, International Mission Board missionaries Jason and Robin Ebeyer were praying to find a “person of peace”– someone who would welcome them and help in their ministry efforts. The Ebeyers have been working for the last few years with the people in Isan, a region in Thailand where the Village of Three Temples is found. In this village, there is no Christian presence of any kind, and they … [Read more...]
A fitting close for people of faith
For 2021, the International Mission Board posted the following statistics: 592,408 people heard the gospel; there were 176,795 new believers, and 22,744 new churches. Our team of missionaries could not have attained those benchmarks were it not for your participation in the gospel through the Cooperative Program and the designated Lottie Moon Offering you gave through your local church, where every dollar goes to the mission field. And yet most of the world remains lost – 59 percent of the … [Read more...]
Biden enacts law protecting same-sex marriage
WASHINGTON (BP) – Same-sex marriage is now protected in federal law. President Biden signed the Respect for Marriage Act (RMA) Tuesday (Dec. 13) and thereby finalized landmark legislation that redefines the world’s oldest institution. Five days after Congress completed passage, Biden enacted a bill that mandates federal and state recognition of any same-sex marriage considered legal in the jurisdiction where it took place. Although the new law does not require states to legalize gay … [Read more...]

FAYETTE – When a wildfire swept through the town of Wooldridge on Oct. 22, it took out 15 homes and displaced several families. It damaged the church and some commercial buildings. One family was able to relocate to a rental home in Fayette, some 30 miles to the north. There the home was a roof over their heads but not much more. It lacked working plumbing or heating. Pastor Ken Stacy, of Hillside Baptist Church, Fayette, was notified of the family’s needs. He made a visit to the … [Read more...]
‘Tidings of great joy’ proclaimed at Christmas
On Dec. 9, 1965, nearly half of the nation’s viewership watched what WORLD Magazine reporter Maryrose Delahunty called “one of the most memorable monologues in television history: an account of Christ’s birth, recited word for word from the Gospel of Luke.” Since that time, many families have added to their annual holiday celebrations this memorable monologue – spoken by Linus in the now classic show, A Charlie Brown Christmas. Few traditions stir the Christmas spirit in me more than … [Read more...]
Rise in antisemitism should prompt evangelism, Messianic Fellowship director says
EVANSTON, Ill. (BP) – Ric Worshill remembers the beatings he endured his eighth grade year. They always happened in the same place as he walked to Hebrew school. He remembers the humiliation. He remembers the perpetrators as attendees of the “religious school” (he won’t give the name). He remembers being confused because, as he puts it, “They were supposed to be Christians.” Worshill identifies as a Jew who recognizes Jesus as the Messiah. And as a North American Mission … [Read more...]
