Stop worrying about giving percentages, do the Lord’s work
I am personally offended when I hear and read that good men place more importance on the amount of money a sister church gives to the Cooperative Program than they do on the souls of millions. Speaking for myself, I want to say that I don’t care how much money Johnny Hunt’s church gives, nor do I care how much Ronnie Floyd’s church gives, I don’t even care how much David Tolliver’s church gives. My concern is that we have lost the importance of the Great Commission if we waste time worrying about a sister church’s giving percentage.
The church that I serve the Lord in is concerned with reaching out to the unchurched, the unsaved and the disillusioned Christian with the love of Jesus with no concern whatsoever about whether they can give. We are concerned for their soul, their salvation, their restoration. This is what drives our little church, not the percentage we give. We made a deal with God. When he says “go,” we go, and He has always taken care of the finances. We will be about the Father’s business.

Breakaway trustees may get favorable, earthly ruling, but …
I was glad to see the letter from Bro. Doug McLaughlin (“We must continue to do all we can to recover breakaway agencies,” Oct. 13 Pathway) concerning the situation about the breakaway agencies of the Missouri Baptist Convention. I always understood that trustees were appointed to take care of what was entrusted to them, not to take it over. Perhaps they need to read a few verses from the Bible, such as Malachi 3:8-9, Psalms 6:8, 119:115 and Exodus 22:4.
Perhaps an earthly judge will decide to rule in their favor, but sooner or later they will have to answer to a Higher Power and He might have a different opinion. I’ve known Bro. Doug for more than 40 years and he and his family are some of the best servants of God I’ve ever known.
