Reverend Everett Walden, 71, Maryville, Missouri, died Friday, February 10, 2012, at St Francis Hospital, Maryville, Missouri.

He was born February 2, 1941 in Pulaski County, Kentucky, the son of the late Elmer Ray and Helen Maxine (Yanders) Walden.

A veteran serving in the United States Army from 1961-63 he was honorably discharged at the rank of E5.

Everett married Lenna Mae Flynn, March 3, 1964 in Tennessee.

After working in a steel mill for several years Everett was called to the Gospel Ministry. His schooling included Missouri Baptist College, St. Louis, MO, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky, and Doctorate degree from Luther Rice Seminary, Jacksonville, Florida. Everett served as a Southern Baptist Pastor and Director of Missions for over forty years in Indiana, South Dakota, and Missouri before retiring. He also served as a hospital chaplain in various hospitals and had previously served as chaplain for Troop H, of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

He was a member of Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville.

Everett and Lenna were former owners of the Cardinal Inn and owned and managed several properties in the Maryville area.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one daughter Lisa Mae Walden, brother Robert Walden and infant brother and sister William and Christine Walden.

Survivors include: wife Lenna Walden, of the home, two sons Douglas (Theresa) Cummins, Maryville, Everett Ray (Cindy) Walden Jr., Salem, MO, three brothers, Kenny Walden, Elizabethtown, KY, Walter Walden, and , Ronnie Walden, Bronston, KY, six grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Visitation: 5-6 PM, Wednesday, Feb. 15 at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. Funeral Services: 10 AM, Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012 at Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville.

Dr. G H Surrette

Dr. G H Surrette, age 85, of Bolivar passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2012. He was born to Joe William and Mary Leona Surrette in Water Valley, Mississippi on December 25, 1926.

He graduated from Union University in Jackson, TN. He received his doctorate in Old Testament and Archeology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He pastored churches in Tennessee, Missouri and Texas. In 1965 he moved to Bolivar to teach Old Testament at Southwest Baptist University. He was Vice President of Academic Affairs and later taught at Mid-Western Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Mo. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Bolivar. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was married to Marvel Austin on July 31, 1947.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ronald Surrette; three brothers, Douglas, George and Warren Surrette; and one sister, Ruby Clemson.

He is survived by his wife Marvel Surrette of the home; two daughters and their families, Rene Swaim and her husband Steve, their daughters, Heather and Heather’s children, Shelby, Lauren and Ashley and her husband Kirk and their Children, Kaya and Lucas; Dewanna Choate and her husband Adrian, their son, Nicholas and his wife April and their children, Landon, Jarryn, Daniel and Grace; and their daughter Nichole; two sisters, Marie Zediker and Nell Hoaglund; other relatives; Church families and many friends.

Funeral services was held in First Baptist Church, Bolivar, Jan. 15, with Nolan Carrier and Billy Russell. Burial was in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Batesville, Mississippi.
