(WNS) - Pro-life advocates on Nov. 8 urged Congress to ensure passage of a bill protecting the conscience rights of healthcare providers. Tears streamed down Cathy DeCarlo’s face as she recounted her experience as a nurse in New York City. In May 2009, DeCarlo entered an operating room assuming she was there to treat a woman after a miscarriage only to find out the unborn baby was still alive. Her supervisor instructed her to help assist in the abortion or risk disciplinary action. … [Read more...]
Cheap sex and tumbling marriage rates: Sociologist argues the sexual revolution has devalued sex and disadvantaged women in the marriage market
(WNS) - The price of sex has plummeted, throwing the “mating market” into a tizzy, according to Texas sociologist Mark Regnerus. “It turns out that a world in which it is possible to satisfy our sexual desires much more immediately carries with it a number of unhappy and unintended consequences,” writes Regnerus, an associate professor of sociology at the University of Texas at Austin, in a Wall Street Journal editorial. For his new book on the subject, Cheap Sex: The Transformation of … [Read more...]

WASHINGTON (BP) A federal judge's decision to block the Trump administration from enforcing a ban of transgender military – service is "likely" to be overturned on appeal, says a former military attorney who serves as general counsel for the Missouri Baptist Convention. "The Obama Defense Department changed the longstanding policy just last year regarding transgender service in the military," Mike Whitehead, the Missouri convention's attorney and a former member of the Army's Judge … [Read more...]

RAYTOWN – For the first time since 2005, the governor of Missouri spoke to messengers at the Missouri Baptist Convention annual meeting which took place at Connection Point Church here Oct. 25. Eric Greitens, a republican and political newcomer with only 10 months of office under his belt, received a warm welcome with his pro-life, pro-religious liberty message. The governor also thanked messengers for their prayers for him, his family, and the rest of state government. He spent half an … [Read more...]
America dangerously downplaying sin
Given recent events in Las Vegas, New York and now Sutherland Springs, Texas, we ought to ask ourselves if we are ignoring the seriousness – and inevitable consequences – of sin. It seems the instances of sin preached from America’s pulpits are too few, particularly among mainline churches. The prosperity gospel reigns. “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” a sermon that triggered a national revival, is relegated to antiquity while human relational adjustment dynamics is all the rage. … [Read more...]
Apple removes pro-life prayer app
(WNS) – Tech giant Apple removed a pro-life prayer app from its App Store following backlash from pro-abortion advocates, another example of bias against Christian groups. Human Coalition’s app, still available on the Google Play Store, displays a list of prayer requests, such as, “Someone considering abortion in Dallas, Texas.” When users signal with a swipe of their thumb that they’ve prayed for the situation, the app updates a daily tally of prayers. The group said Apple removed … [Read more...]
‘Nothing new under the sun’: Unborn life, biblical sexuality addressed by the Reformers
JEFFERSON CITY – The author of Ecclesiastes once wisely wrote, “there is nothing new under the sun”. This truism is perhaps best exhibited in society’s current moral failings. For many Christians, it seems as though issues such as abortion, same-sex marriage, and gender dysphoria are new problems facing the church. However, a closer examination of church history shows that Christians have argued against these very same moral issues throughout previous generations. As we celebrate the … [Read more...]
California embraces gender identity laws
(WNS)--The California legislature was a battleground for gender identity issues this year. Four landmark gender bills passed the state Senate and Assembly by the time the session ended Sep. 15, and California Gov. Jerry Brown signed all four this month. On Oct. 4, Brown signed a bill that criminalizes long-term care facility employees’ “misgendering” of residents. The bill requires workers use transgender residents’ preferred pronouns and mandates that residents be allowed to … [Read more...]
Boy Scouts & the disappearing paths
The Boy Scouts of America announced last week that the organization will now accept girls as members, thus ending the uniqueness of this iconic institution. Many commentators have lamented the moral decline of the Boy Scouts, seen in the organization’s steady capitulation to the ideology of the sexual revolution. But there is something deeper going on here, and it goes beyond one’s views of sexual morality. The Path of Wisdom and Virtue The Boy Scouts offered a pathway toward manhood, a … [Read more...]
End IRS oversight of sermons, Protestant pastors say
NASHVILLE – In the 1950s, Congress banned charitable nonprofits – including churches – from endorsing candidates or otherwise intervening in elections. Any nonprofit that violated the ban could run afoul of the IRS. Churches risked losing their tax-exempt status if the preacher endorsed a candidate in a sermon. It’s time for that to change, most Protestant pastors say in a new survey from Nashville-based LifeWay Research. More than 7 in 10 say Congress should bar the IRS from punishing a … [Read more...]
Missouri Baptist lawyers critique federal housing allowance ruling
MADISON, Wisc. – For a second time a federal judge in Wisconsin has ruled the U.S. Tax Code’s ministerial housing allowance is unconstitutional. U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb once again attempted to strike down the housing allowance, issuing her decision on Oct. 9. Her previous ruling on the matter was struck down by the Seventh U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. But the ruling does not impact Missouri clergy, only those in Wisconsin so far, said Missouri Baptist Convention general … [Read more...]
