Clarksville recovers from recent flooding

By Staff

CLARKSVILLE – Thirteen members of First Baptist, Oran, heeded the call to help Missouri Baptist churches still working to recover after severe flooding this summer.

The team replaced river-soaked drywall in the First Clarksville basement, removed sandbags from five homes and helped clean out a local bed and breakfast and the Annada City Hall.

Ed Carter, the church’s pastor had no trouble recruiting volunteers to help out flood-damaged First Baptist Church of Clarksville

“This spring our own community had 17 inches of rain in two days and we had our own problems to deal with,” he said.

Alex Schlitt, a 13-year old member from Oran, almost lost his own home to the flood, so he was more than willing to help anyone who had suffered due to flood waters.

“I want [the people of Clarksville] to know I care and I want to share God’s love.”

Carter said the blessings of putting God’s love into action far outweighed the strain of working in the heat.

“This is my tenth mission trip I have led this church in and we always exceed our mission goals,” he said. “I am amazed each time how they respond, especially for a church that averages 75-80 in Sunday School and 90-100 in worship.”
